Teen queen Miley Cyrus has reappeared on the music scene with a brand new music video for her cover of Bob Dylan‘s song You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go. The song will be a part of the new album Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International, which includes 4-discs of singles covered by artists and is released tomorrow (January 24th).

MTV even gave Miley’s cover a great review! Check out what they had to say:

Miley covers “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” with all of the mournfulness and dusty sentiment that the classic Dylan song requires, pouring her heart into the track and giving the legend his due instead of simply covering the track and moving on. (It’s hard to top the Shawn Colvin version, but Miley comes dangerously close.)

It takes not only guts but cojones the size of wrecking balls to cover Bob Dylan, and Miley rose to the occasion and not only proved that she’s capable of genres beyond pop but that she thrives vocally in a folk/ country environment. I’m now waiting impatiently for that country album, Milers.

The video is like a <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/10/03/selena-gomez-hits-the-desert-for-music-video">day in the life of Selena Gomez</a> &#8212; if she wasn't an internationally known singer/actress and had time to hang out with her mall-punk friends and dance her life away. The message of the clip (and the song) seems to be to have fun, live your life and throw caution to the wind.

Gomez kicks the party off early, giving flirty looks while riding around on tractors and smashing pumpkins as the track's pulsing beat plays to her feel-good lyrics. Midway through the video, the atmosphere transitions from day to night and Gomez's wardrobe also takes on a more sparkling vibe.

Next, Selena shows up at a house party with lights flashing everywhere. She dances around as scenes of a far-off city flash by in fast-motion. The song closes out with a montage of party scenes, and in the end, Selena is left alone in a field somewhere, fireworks blasting above her as she twirls around with sparklers ion her hands.

Teen Queen Miley Cyrus has reportedly teamed up with Latin singer Shakira to record a brand new duet. The song, titled Love and Rock is said to be released on Valentines Day (February 14), with proceeds going towards charity.

The song will be debuted at a special Valentine’s Day gala for children with heart ailments, with the song being strictly for charity purposes. This means that the song will not appear on any upcoming album for Shakira or Miley.

Miley has also contributed to charity through her music in the past, with singles such as Everybody Hurts and We are the World raising funds for Haiti.

Selena Gomez shines in silver as she performs her hit song, “Love You Like A Love Song” on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday night (September 19) in Burbank, Calif.

The last time the 19-year-old actress/singer was on the NBC show earlier this summer, she fled to the hospital right after! Good to see this visit was better!

Selena tweeted to her fans after catching up with Simon Cowell on the show, “I just wanted to say Thank You to all who came out and supported the ‘We Own the Night Tour.’ Thank you all so much I had an amazing summer with you all. I love you.”

When the song came out, it went #1 on iTunes instantly and it was so surprising to me,” she said at a fan meet-and-greet in Los Angeles, where Lovatics lined up for blocks to meet Demi. “I wasn’t expecting that at all. It’s been such a whirlwind, and I’ve been so blessed and so thankful for it.”

In “Skyscraper,” Lovato confronts her issues — the ones for which she sought treatment last fall — because, she said, she wanted to keep her fans in the loop about her growth as a person.

I’ve been pretty honest,” she said. “My whole journey has been about telling my story and hoping that when I share my story, it inspires somebody. So, when I decided to come out with a single that was honest and about my journey and about standing strong and tall like a skyscraper, I hope that it inspired people. I thought that there was a bigger opportunity for me to come out with a song that would inspire people, rather than it be just another dance song on the radio,” she added.

Sure, “Skyscraper” has a message, but there are also some fun tracks on the album, Demi promises, including her Missy Elliott/Timbaland collabo, “All Night Long.”

The song that Missy and I did together, Timbaland’s actually on it, too, and it’s fun,” she said. “It’s about staying up all night long and singing it to the boy that you like, and it’s flirty and fun and it’s not too grown-up, but it’s grown-up enough.”

Debby Ryan stars in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Series “Jessie” and in addition to that she will be the voice you hear singing the theme song before each episode! Debby revealed the details about the theme song on her Twitter:

ARE YOU EXCITED to see Demi perform?

VH1: What can you tell us about the time when the song sort of first made its way to you, and what was it that originally drew you to the song “Skyscraper”?

Demi Lovato: I recorded it a year ago, and when I first heard it I was blown away. I was emotionally attached to the song and I really related to it, like a lot of other people. Like a lot of my fans. I think that’s kind of the beauty of the song, that it’s really relatable, but for me when I first recorded it, it was kind of a cry for help. It was before I went to treatment, before everything had kind of hit the fan. I went to treatment and I came out, then I tried to rerecord “Skyscraper” because my voice had changed and it just wasn’t the same. There was something in that first try, that first run through of the song that was kind of magical. It was so much emotion in it, and to this day, it’s still really special to me. I’ve never been so vulnerable or emotional while recording a song, to the point where I was almost doubled over in tears in the studio. I was crying when I recorded it, I was bawling my eyes out. I don’t know, it just felt really great to open up like that.

I know that you co-wrote the song with Toby Gad, whom you had collaborated with before on your previous records. Can you tell me a little about some of the lyrical contributions that you made to this particular song?

Actually, all I did was perform it. I sang it and poured my heart out into it. Working with Toby was amazing; he wrote the song with a artist named Kerli and she too is just an incredible vocalist, they did an amazing job and I just had the amazing opportunity to record it.

Was it a song that you had to fight for? Did you ever feel like it was going to slip out of your hands?

I never really felt like I would lose the song in any way.

What I mean by that is this. You know, sometimes you hear how demos of songs kind of fly around industry circles, and artists sometimes grapple to see who can record it first. I didn’t know if there was any of that sort of issue when you first recorded the song?

No, Toby was a loyal producer. When he gave me the song, he gave it to me. I was pretty blessed.

The song has been out for just about a week or so now, and as soon as it was released, it went straight to the top of the iTunes charts, which makes it the most successful song of your young career so far. Why do you think that so many people so far are connecting with this particular song at this particular moment, particularly when a lot of the Top 10 songs you hear right now are about celebrating or partying?

It’s kind of unfortunate that pop songs have become so much about partying and about clubs, you know. There’s a time and there’s a place for artist to have some of those songs, and you know I have some of those feel good songs on my records, too. I think people will get sick of hearing about drinking all the time on the radio, because not everybody drinks. I’m not old enough to go to clubs and I have a hard time relating to those songs, so here I come out with a song that’s very emotional and I think that my fans really just cherish that. They’re not old enough to go to clubs, they’re not old enough to drink, and they have a song that they can relate to.

Talk to me a little about the decision that you and your management team made to work with Mark Pellington on this video. Obviously, he directed Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy,” so he’s definitely a expert in associating powerful visuals to emotionally resonant lyrics. What was it about the treatment he presented to you that really spoke to you in the video?

When my manager and my label came to me with video treatments, they sent me one from Mark Pellington. He was is really respected as a director, and he had a great way of really interpreting the song into a video and I was just really thankful that he did such a great job. But he is such an incredible artist and he really knew how to interpret that into a incredible video.

All of the power of the song definitely comes through in the video, and I feel like it’s one of the most emotional videos I’ve seen since Sinéad O’Connors “Nothing Compares 2 U”…

Oh, thank you!

…So, what I mean to ask is, how did you bring yourself to really that raw emotional place again? Was that scary for you being that vulnerable on camera? I mean, it’s one thing to do it in the recording studio but then to do it on camera…

We shot the video in the middle of the desert, basically, and it was pretty easy to get to that emotional place ’cause I was kind of disconnected to the real world anyways. There actually wasn’t very many people there, we actually took private plane there with just the most essential people: the director and hair and make up and management and that was really it. So we didn’t have a large video shoot at all. We really made sure we kept the video shoot really intimate, because it needed to be for the song.

I know its really early to be asking something like this, but I’m wondering if this is the kind of song that you will be singing maybe 10, 15, or 20 years down the road, or do you think that its something that encapsulates a moment in time for you that you would rather not dwell on?

No, I definitely think that it’s the kind of song that I want to still sing for the rest of my life, and if I am blessed enough to have a career that will last 15 or 20 years, I would definitely want to perform this because it represented such a incredible point in my life and career.

Not sure if you’ve been hanging around the internet today or not, but Jordin Sparks released her cover of “Skyscraper” on YouTube today. Have you heard it?

No, but I wanna listen to it, it sounds awesome!

Did she reach out to you to let you know that she’d be doing that, by any chance?

Yeah, Jordin is a buddy of mine and she actually did the background vocals on “Skyscraper.” We wanted to keep those because it adds a lot to the song, I think she may have recorded it once maybe and I don’t really know what the situation was, but I know she did the background vocals and they were lovely so they kept them.

What can we expect for you coming up, do you have a full length that you will be working on anytime soon? What’s next for you over these next couple of weeks and months?

What’s next for me is finishing up the record and getting it out there as fast as we can, I’m gonna be working with a lot of incredible people and I have worked with a lot of incredible people so we are really excited for it to get out there and do our thing, and hopefully release another single soon…I don’t know, we’ll see!

Are there any particular producers or songwriters that you’re working with?

I’m not sure if I can talk about it, but there are some really talented people, I’m really excited.

Do you have any idea in mind in terms of when you would like to get something out, maybe late this year or early next year?

Soon. Soon is all I can say!

But, in saying that, I’m probably downplaying several other reasons for the song’s ability to cut through the din. Like, for example, everything that’s happened in Lovato’s life leading up to this point or how, because of that, she connects with the song in ways that most didn’t think possible. She reveals new depths with each note, and when she hits that last chorus, and her voice is pushed to the point of breaking, well, if you don’t get goose bumps, then there’s a pretty good chance you’re not alive.

In short, with one song, Demi Lovato has grown up before our very eyes. It’s sort of like we’ve all been handed this shiny new talent, seemingly out of the blue, and we don’t quite know how to react. So it’s fitting that such a career-making single now comes with an appropriately powerful music video, one that is bereft of any and all gimmickry (no elaborate costumes, epic set pieces or dazzling special effects) yet still manages to pack an emotional wallop.

Directed by Mark Pellington (a man who knows a thing or two about making iconic clips), “Skyscraper” is nothing more than Lovato belting out the tune on the barren terrain of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Sure, there’s some dramatically billowing fabrics and some shattered glass, but really, the song is the star. And that simplicity is perfect here, because the song provides all the pyrotechnics necessary.

There is also a moment, right before that knee-buckling final chorus, where Lovato looks directly into the camera and very nearly breaks into tears. I’m not sure if she’s acting or not, but I doubt it, and really, it’s not like it matters. Not when a singer connects to a song on such a visceral level, especially one who’s already been through the wringer. With “Skyscraper,” Lovato has not only proven that she’s capable of remarkable things, but that she’s a survivor too. And, really, there’s nothing more that needs to be said. Not when the song does all the talking for you.

This is the moment at which 18 year old Disney teen pop princess Demi Lovato emerges from personal trauma to step forward as a young adult pop artist. It is no surprise that she would emerge from a stay in rehab and treatment for bipolar disorder with a statement of strength in song. However, it is her choice of collaborators that help make “Skyscraper” truly memorable. It sports the simultaneously fragile but resilient feel of collaborator Kerli’s work while being guided with the surefire mainstream pop hand of veteran Toby Gad. Here Demi Lovato looks serious about being not only a Disney teen idol but also a true pop artist.

Guide Review – Demi Lovato – “Skyscraper”

“Skyscraper” opens with the trio of lines, “Skies are crying / I am watching / Catching teardrops in my hands.” Sung with fragile emotion over a pulsing piano by Demi Lovato, this is one of the most riveting openings to a mainstream pop song yet this year. The song maintains a simple structure. It is a song of survival in the face of events that amount to efforts to “tear me down.” However, the audio pictures painted by words like “You can break everything I am / Like I’m made of glass,” coupled with Demi Lovato’s bravura vocal performance turn this into something truly special.

The lyrics of “Skyscraper” bear the unmistakable moody, yet uplifting stamp of Estonian-born songwriter and performer Kerli who co-wrote the song. It is all channeled into memorable mainstream pop territory with the presence of producer and songwriter Toby Gad who is known for such hits as Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy” and Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” The pop music field has been crowded lately with anthems about self-esteem. However, none has been as intimately personal as Demi Lovato sounds here. As she vocally swings for the fences following the bridge, Demi Lovato sounds as if she really does see herself as the towering survivor described in the words.

“Skyscraper” is a complete change of pace from the current dominance of upbeat party tunes on the pop music landscape. Hopefully, this will mean a niche is open for a song like “Skyscraper.” It is deserving of the attention, and “Skyscraper” is one of those pop songs that just might save a life or two as it gives inspiration to listeners beset by equally difficult life circumstances.

As a contributing editor for Seventeen, Demi talks about her song and what it means to her personally. She says that it is about her journey this past year and the struggles that she has gone through. Just as Demi Lovato has overcome her obstacles, she hopes that fans will relate to the words she has written as an inspiration to others to rise above and shine like a skyscraper.
